Your Privacy
At Friends Overseas we respect your right to have information about
you handled carefully and correctly, for you to know exactly what we will do
with any personal information you give us, and for you to have control at all
times over whether we continue to store information about you in our files.
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about
how privacy is handled at
Friends Overseas.
What information about me will you acquire and store?
To include you in our program of introductions, we need to have basic
contact details (including a postal address and phone number) so that we can put
visitors and residents in touch with each other. We also ask you to supply
details of your age, gender and interests, so that we can match people who are
likely to get on well (please note, however, that Friends Overseas is not
a dating agency - we're just trying to ensure that people will enjoy the same
type of cultural and social activities). American visitors are also asked to
supply a business address, and if not, the name and address of someone who can
provide a character reference.
Where will you store this information?
At our administrative office in New York, in printed and computer form. We
don't use outside data bureaus to store our information.
Will you disclose my personal data to other companies?
No. We won't disclose our members' details to other companies.
When will you start giving my contact details to other members?
We never give a member's contact details to anyone else until we have
received your application form, which acts as your authorization for us to
release it.
Can I tell you to stop giving out my details?
Yes, at any time, by phone, letter or e-mail (see 'Contact Us', below).
Does your website use cookies (a system whereby your web browser stores
small amounts of data on your computer's disk)?
No. Our website does not use cookies, or any other client-side data storage
system.
If you have any further questions about
privacy, please contact us (see 'Contact Us' below)
