Australians
meeting visiting Americans
Many tourists catch only fleeting glimpses of daily life in a foreign land.
But by joining Friends Overseas-Australia, you can help to make outsiders
feel like insiders.
FOA, which was founded by Ann Whyte in 1991, is a meet-the-people activity
based in Forest Hills, New York. It brings American tourists together with
Australian residents to spend time informally, sharing information on
lifestyles and interests.
Knowing how busy we all are in the 21st Century, we ask that you be available
to meet our members (couples, families, solo travelers) no more than five
times each year. They will contact you by letter or e-mail and if you have
other commitments please let them know so that we can supply an alternative
contact.
We try to match the interests of tourists and residents. You can either get
together in town for coffee or tea, or show them a favorite area for a few
hours, or invite them to your home for a meal. Each contact provides a
different individual experience. FOA gives members the opportunities to
meet; the rest is up to you. It's a great way to get to know interesting
people, make new friends, and have U.S. contacts if you decide to take a trip
to America in the future.
If this sounds appealing, please contact Friends Overseas-Australia for a
membership application:

If you have any questions, you can send them to

(please include 'FO' in the subject line).
We can also provide the e-mail address of our
contact at the
Australian Tourist Commission in Los Angeles if you wish to
verify our activity.
Please join us in putting out the welcome mat and giving American visitors
the chance to get a taste of the local life.
With best wishes,

Ann Whyte
